Friday Finds: Beauty Edition

A round-up of some new beauty finds and some familiar standbys that I love and work regardless of size!

Tom Ford Velvet Orchid

Reading descriptions of Tom Ford’s newest perfume reads like a sommeliers’ notes after a wine tasting. There is no way I can compete with this description! Suffice it to say this was an out-of-my-comfort-zone purchase for me and I love the sophisticated, heady take on feminine floral.

Shopping Tip: Run by the perfume counter and grab a spritz or sample to test out before committing!

Clarisonic

If you don’t already own a Clarisonic, remedy the situation immediately. (It’s a great item to put on your Christmas wish list!) I have had mine for years and nothing has worked better on my fussy skin and I love, love, love how smooth my skin feels afterwards.

Shopping Tip: I recommend the MIA versions vs the full-size version – much easier to travel with and I never use the body brushes that the full-size is designed to use. Also suggest the MIA2 or 3 so you have different speeds.

M.A.C. Eyeliner

M.A.C. is hands down my favorite for eye makeup. Their richly pigmented colors are unmatched and odds are, if we’ve met in person, you’ve seen me wearing Prunella. There are alternatives to the standard black eye liner! This color is a must for brown, hazel, or green eyes. Blue-eyed ladies (potentially Miss K if her eyes don’t change!) opt for Grey Utility to really make your eyes stand out.

Kevyn Aucoin Lip Color

Only in the last year or so have I had the guts to wear a statement lipstick shade out and about. I bought this Kevyn Aucoin Bloodroses lipstick at Nordstrom beauty event last year and love it. This shade is more red than pictured but definitely has warm brown undertones. My favorite thing about it is that it actually stays on my lips, no bleeding or disappearing with every bite.

Style Tip: Apply a light, medium, or heavy coat, with or without gloss, or mixed with other shades for maximum shade versatility.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Full-Form Mousse

I have the kind of hair that, though it’s not thick, refuses to hold style and volume. Professional blow outs that everyone swears will last for at least a few days barely last a few hours on me. And then my stylist introduced me to this Full-Form Mousse by Bumble and Bumble. It even contributes to an above-average second-day hair style, previously not even an option.

Style Tip: DO NOT use very much at a time! Too much and you won’t even be able to drag a brush through your hair! Apply half a golf ball sized amount to roots and work through. Then apply same amount to rest of hair and style away!

 Miss K’s Corner

My “beauty” needs are pretty simple these days but this Weleda Calendula Cream has been the best rash cream for my sensitive bum. We just ordered the lotion – will see how it works and will report back!
