It’s hard to pull off a polished look when you feel that you’re standing on the surface of the sun.  Which incidentally it’s what it feels like here.  It’s been 95+ degrees cool the last week and shows no signs of letting up.  What in the world are we going to do when August arrives?! And to make matters worse, I am a heat bomb. If there is an opportunity to sweat, I am.  Talking with friends, laughing, running errands, walking to my car, loading groceries, blow drying my hair.  Heat. Bomb.

Surely I’m not the only one?  For that one other person and I, here area few tips to keep us from drowning in a pool of our own perspiration this summer.

Summer Sundress: Stripes

Sundresses

Keep the air flowing! Sundresses are everywhere right now and are great for work or casual wear as shown here.

Alter Your Hair Routine

Discover a cute, easy updo.  Fall in love with dry shampoo and root boost.  Or skip the full process!  Rough dry your hair and then flat iron the top pieces rather than meticulously blowing it all dry for 20+ minutes.  As an added bonus when you skip drying each section individually, you give more body to fine hair.

Programmable Thermostat

We have one and it has not only saved the marriage, it’s much more cost efficient, but it means you walk in from the sweltering heat into a cool home.  The upgraded version is the Nest, controlled by your phone or tablet.  Is it weird that this is on my birthday list?

Vests

Gentlemen, where appropriate, opt for a tie and vest rather than a blazer.  They give you a bit more breathing room and look sharp!

Foundation Layer

Silk tops and “summerweight” leather fabric trends are beautiful but not as pretty when marked with sweat stains.  Opt for a nude cami under your tops in cotton or try this shapewear that claims to help keep you cool.  A bit counter-intuitive to layer but it keeps your clothes from sticking to you and can keep you cooler with a breathable layer between you and your non-breathable top.

Cold Water Finish

End your showers with cold water.  Not only is it refreshing but it brings your body temperature back down, closes your pores, and seals your hair cuticles.

And if all else fails, there is standing in front of the open fridge.

How do you prevent a full-scale meltdown?
