In the past, I’ve not loved sarongs but I’ve changed my tune and I’ll show you why! Can’t wait to try these out on our upcoming beach trip. Watch my Great Day Houston segment on six ways to style a sarong then check out outfit details (most items are on sale!) and an additional style we didn’t have time to air after the jump!
How to Style a Sarong

Sarongs are a great way to cover-up without adding tons of bulk to your look (or heat – it is HOT out there people!). We’ve seen the basic strapless version above, which is an easy staple, but we wanted more! Here are seven more styles to add to your sarong style repertoire.
Sarong Skirts Three Ways
We started with the basics showing long, short, and double-knotted skirt options. These can look so chic and even dressy. Perfect for the day you’ve booked the cabana. ;-)
Style Tip: Free yourself from knotting just at the ends. Grab anywhere on the sarong to create a knot and new style.
What She Wore
Black Ruffle Front Swimsuit (similar, similar <cheapest price for this one, similar) | Sarong | Clutch | Earrings | Necklace (style available in store) | Bracelet | Wedges
Embellished Halter Sarong Dress and Sweetheart Strapless
This is one of my favorite styles and all it takes is a bangle that I know you already have lying around! The wider the sarong, the more coverage you’ll have from top to bottom.
What She Wore
Bikini (same print available in a one-piece – note: runs very small!) | Sarong | Earrings |
Tote | Wedges
One-Shoulder Toga Style Sarong Dress
The toga-style sarong dress is great if you want a bit more coverage on top and to cinch your waist rather than sticking with the more flowy sarong style options.
Try Next: For a looser look, a longer sarong would give more draping above and below the waist!
What She Wore
Swimsuit | Sarong | Earrings | Tote | Bracelet | Wedges
We used thinner fabrics and small-ish sarongs for a more sheer, lightweight look and feel but you can easily use silk, linen, and any other fabric and size that suits your fancy! Twice around the waist is a good rule of thumb when determining the best length for you.
Want more? Here’s one more easy way to style a sarong in just three steps:
- Fold your sarong in half vertically.
- Knot the new middle to the edges.
- Unfold and you have a sarong-style vest!
THANK YOU again to Elaine Turner for providing the accessories for this segment and TuTu Cute by Jacqueline Smooke for providing the sarongs!
