It’s been a hot second since our Makeover for Life event! I headed up to Pennsylvania this past weekend for a Hope Walks Board Meeting and it felt like the perfect time to share one of the Makeover for Life winners’ recap! Our wonderful event was made possible by so many vendors, and of course our Makeover winners. So let’s get into it. Here’s Maria!
Maria is a professional in the oil and gas industry. She was in the processes of finishing up her Master’s Degree during the Makeover for Life event and described herself as still feeling like she’s wearing or borrowing her mom’s clothes when she puts on professional clothing. We can certainly all relate to our clothes not portraying our knowledge and expertise in the corporate world.
We started with Maria’s closet. She had a great space with some great built-ins already existing. During the Closet Edit, rather than the finishing work of organizing, we start at the beginning and edit/declutter. Together, we seeing what fits, colors, cuts and styles look the BEST and ensure that they all fit into Maria’s personal image goals. So that after the process not only will Maria be stepping out with confidence, but also be projecting her best self to the world.
After we edited, the Charming Spaces came in and made it beautiful and organized!
In a closet edit session, I do all the assessments – body shape, color, face shape, personal style – and then armed with that information we tackle the closet!

And then we hit the town for visits with all of our supporting vendors. And by supporting vendors you need to know, David Peck, Roi Alan (and the former Tease team), and Andrea Montgomery Designs have all been so generous and supported each of the last three female Makeover for Life winners. Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe it. These are incredible people and if you aren’t already, I can’t encourage you enough to support their businesses!
David’s new studio is stunning! In addition to custom gowns, he has ready to wear and has added so many shopping options. This sheath dress and purple top is classic David Peck and could not have been better colors for Maria. I’m thrilled it won the day!
With Maria’s hair we focused on keeping enough weight in her hair to keep the curls manageable but also taking off some of the length so she had beautiful volume at the top. Roi also shared tips on keeping the curls at their best to maximize days between washings and we talked through some go-to hairstyles for events and work functions.
This arm stack turned out perfectly. I have 8 or 9 of these gold bead bracelets from Andrea and they are fantastic. They work solo or with a great arm stack and love that we were able to work in a coordinated purple sting ray cuff!
Jentry Kelley Cosmetics provided a makeup lesson and application for the event and for the after photo shoot. I have yet to have someone looking askance or not loving their makeup session with Jentry. She and her team consistently do a wonderful job!
Maria IS beautiful and looked it that night! Her makeover was one for the books!

“I do wish I had taken notes during the closet cleanout with Natalie, she had so much advice and tidbits on clothing on what to wear, and how to style….it was information overload!”
“I recently got married and about to finish my master’s degree – but I still feel like when I put on professional clothing I look like I am wearing/borrowing my mom’s stuff! I want to understand what most flattering for me while keeping my youthful style as a part of who I am. It’s hard being a young Latina woman in the oil and gas industry and so sometimes I overdo it with clothes to compensate but it doesn’t really translate.”
