How to Wear 2016 Colors of the Year

For the first time in their 13 years of proclaiming a color of the year, Pantone named two colors of the year for 2016! Rose Quartz and Serenity won the hush-hush selection committee’s vote and I was on Great Day Houston showing you how to style these peaceful shades!

Pantone Color of the Year Segment

Pre-Mixed Combo

Not only has Pantone named two colors but they are specifically suggesting the Rose Quartz and Serenity colors be paired together. Luckily, there is a TON of that pairing available in stores right now.

Monochromatic Rose Quartz

When in doubt on how to pair a particular color, monochromatic is a great default. Going up and down the light/darkness scale for a particular color like this year’s Rose Quartz adds sophistication and visual interest to your look.

Style Tip: Don’t be afraid to try petite sizes when you are looking for a different fit. Though the model is 5′ 7″ she is wearing a Petite jacket for sleeve length and a more cropped fit!

Casual Serenity

The easiest place to work in a close match to the pale blue/periwinkle shades of Serenity is with denim! Thanks to the recent 70s trend and the undying classicness of chambray, there are tons of light denim options available.

This spring you’ll see a ton of the true Serenity shade in stores, now that you know early you can keep an eye out! ;-)

Unexpected Pairing

This is one of my favorite pairings! Deep green looks amazing with Serenity. The best part about the two colors this year is they will mix well with all metalics – silver, gold, and rose gold. For this pairing, consider copper which we’re starting to see a lot of in both fashion and home decor!

Stylist Confessions

Y’all, some outfits are so perfect in person and just don’t translate quite as well on TV. Though it’s a bit better in this picture than it was in the segment, mine definitely falls into this category this time! I love it, it’s fun, pairs well together, and was perfect for the theme of the segment but between the waist placement and the in-between volume of the skirt (more or less would have been better) it doesn’t make my “most-flattering on air looks” list (I don’t really have that list. Well, I mean I sort of do…lol).
