Hello and welcome to 2017! It’s a new year and a new color is in the spotlight. Pantone, the color authority, named Greenery the 2017 Color of the Year and I am SO EXCITED!! Don’t get me wrong, olive and military greens are solidly in my color palette but I have missed the brighter greens in stores!

You’ll start seeing a lot of this shade in coming weeks and months as stores switch their inventory over to spring/summer styles. In the meantime, here’s how to wear the lively hue as seen on a recent Houston Life segment!

How to Wear the Color of the Year

There are so many ways to wear this great color! We paired some simple combinations to make it easy for you to work it in right away.

Adding Greenery to Your Closet

Update Your Staples

There is a reason neutral prints and colors are staples in your closet. When an “it” color, print, or style comes on the scene, you can easily mix it with what you already have in your closet. Here we’ve paired Greenery with blacks and leopard prints with a bit of white jewelry to lift the overall brightness of the look.

Find the Right Hue

The scary part of the color of the year is the yellow undertones. Yellow is right up there with green in many people’s “out of my comfort zone” list. The trick is to find the right shade that works with your skin tone. How do you know it’s the right shade for you? It brightens your complexion, makes your look more awake (and well-rested. woohoo! sign me up!), and doesn’t make your face look drawn or compete with your natural complexion. Nicole’s olive skin tone loved this slightly more blue-toned kelly green than the chartreuse/lime green she tried on originally.

Pop of Color

If you aren’t sure about working a particular color into your wardrobe or are looking for a way to update conservative classics, accessories are a great way to go! Whether it’s with a scarf, handbag, shoes, or jewelry, it’s an easy way to look fresh and current without pitching your entire closet and starting anew with every new trend.

Bold and Bright

Love this color combo! We followed the rule of three as we did in the other outfits – three main colors to an outfit make for the most complete and cohesive look.
