It’s the summer of searing heat and stifling humidity relieved only by torrential downpours here in Houston. I can barely deal with my hair and I’m on the verge of carrying ice packs underneath my clothes. So here are a few fun summer trends to distract you from the “should we move to California?” weather.

Tropical Prints

Whether it’s a great palm print, pineapples – commonly known as symbols of hospitality, or the kitschy flamingo – tropical prints are the summers version of this spring’s floral prints.

Personal Stylist Houston Natalie Weakly Palm Print Dress

Even if you are staring at concrete this summer, you can bring in a tropical feel with a great palm print. This gorgeous dress is a flattering color combo for nearly everyone. If you are not feeling an all-over print, this casual tee is a great option. Counterbalance the playful nature of this print with strong colors, like this blush and black version, to pair for a blazer or pencil skirt for a summer time business casual look.

Jumpsuits and Rompers

Personal Stylist Houston Natalie Weakly Chambray Romper

Just to clear up any potential confusion: romper = shorts, jumpsuit = pants. ;-)

I grabbed a similar version of this chambray romper and am considering living in it all summer. It’s hard to beat the one-and-done ease of this summer style trend. Just add accessories and you are ready to go! And with so many options available, it’s easy to find one that fits your body shape and personal style. Not sure you want to invest much in the trend? This version is under $50!

Sunnies in New Shapes

Must protect those gorgeous peepers of yours! The biggest shape trends in this summer must are round and cat eye. Don’t know whether those shapes work for you? Try the colorful mirrored lenses trend – which you can find in most shapes. Here’s a handy guide for which shape best suits your face.

Style Tip: Not sure how you feel about color? Not sure about the shape? Pick one of these summer style trends to try at a time, like these cat eye sunnies. They are a great blend of trend shape with classic colors.

Personal Stylist Houston Natalie Weakly Mauve Lipstick
I know what you are thinking, “mauve, really?”
Yes, I too was a skeptic before really giving it a try, but since then I am a changed woman! This Nars lipstick in “Anna” is the perfect combination of subtle purple pastel undertones married to a very functional base color. Also Nars has a moisturizing formula so it won’t dry out your lips and with the heat of summer that’s important! If you find you tend to stick to cooler colors when picking out makeup, this is a must for you this summer. You’ll be right on trend with this summer’s “it” colors, and with the muted undertones in this Nars shade you’ll be pulling it off with understated elegance and class! It’s become my favorite go to lipstick and I encourage you to break out of your comfort zone and give it a try!
Personal Stylist Houston Natalie Weakly Coral and Pink Lipstick
So coral is my new favorite thing … and I don’t discriminate. I love coral in all of its forms whether it be nail polish, clothing, or eye shadow but I especially love coral lipstick! Something about the mix of orange and red undertones in this color just set my heart aflutter. If you like a warmer color palette, this color is for you! More than just a vibrant pop of color, and a major current trend, I find it also has this amazing ability to brighten up your entire face. This Lorac Alter Ego lipstick in “Flower Child” does an amazing job of balancing vibrant corals with a mix of milder pinks to make the perfect go-to pop of color for the summer! Lorac’s Alter Ego line is meant to be very color rich so be careful not to be too heavy-handed when applying. The good news is, once on, that color will last all day! Regardless of season, I’ve grown so attached to this lipstick I will most likely end up wearing it year round.

Miss K’s Corner

Personal Stylist Houston Natalie Weakly Baby Girl Eyelet Sundress

This sweet eyelet dress is perfect for the heat of summer. Whether on the beach or taking in your first musical at Miller Outdoor Theatre (it was Hairspray Jr!), this dress is a great addition to your tiny person’s wardrobe. The online color looks white but it’s actually cream!

And…. since we still have to do something with our hair – I read this great article on braids (a great summer style for battling the heat!) for short hair. Real short hair. Not the short hair posts you find on Pinterest that require at least shoulder-length hair. Enjoy!
